President

Hello fellow cervid farmers, my family and I have been deer farming for 41/2 years and how the time flies. My wife Dana for 19-1/2 years has been really supportive of my decision to venture into this wonderful business. We have two children Kyle & Keisha who are also heavily involved in all of the operations. We live in Gaylord, MI on 80 acres, 60 of it now enclosed like Fort Knox. We also have a Plumbing & Heating Company and now have invested in a new hunting preserve. I look forward to serving on the UDFoM board and believe we are making great strides in making Michigan respected in the hunting and farming Industry.

I have been in the deer industry for 7 years. What started out as a hobby for my husband Jamie has grown with a lot of hard work and determination into much, much more. We have two children, Nicholas and Morgann who are an immense help with the farm. I have worked at Rexair, LLC for 21 years in the accounting dept. I served as a secretary/treasurer for Cervid Farmers of Michigan and recently was re-elected as secretary/treasurer for United Deer Farmers of Michigan. I also work for Midwest Whitetail Deer Sales as the bookkeeper/accountant for their auctions. I love every aspect of the deer industry and will work hard to do what I can to help the industry continue to grow and prosper as well as protect the rights in Michigan and nation-wide.

I have been married to my wife, Terry for 36 years. We have 3 grown sons who are also involved in our deer business. I have been raising whitetails for 19 years. I also manage a large hunting ranch & have done so for the past 16 years. I enjoy hunting, fishing, & trapping, doing all three since a very young age.

Legislative Policies & Procedures Committee Chair

I have been married for 36 years to my wife, Anne. We have four sons, one grandson and baby girl in July. I started in the deer idustry in 1989 with my father, Newt. He took care of the animals for me at his place in Luther. Then I purchased the place next door, where we live today in Clio. I have been involved in deer organizations since the begining-1990’s. I have been a board member and held all the executive offices at one time or another. Because I have many contacts in Lansing, my current position is Policy and Leg Comm. Chairman. My goal is to help as many people in the business as I can. I have also discouraged people from getting into the business, because it was not the right thing for them to do-whether finances, family, land size, etc. I have been on the leading edge of handling deer, Tb Accred, CWD Accred, one of first in AI, then LAI. If there is something new, I wanted to be involved. Along the way we have educated people in handling and caring for their deer, but most of all I have met a lot of good people that are as passionate as I am, to my wife’s dismay.

Website Committee Chair

I currently own and operate a small but growing communications business. I started Johnson Technology Group in August 2008, with just my wife Cheryl and myself. We also began Antler Ridge Whitetails in December 2008. What was suppose to be a hobby, quickly has turned into something much more. Cheryl, myself and our two children, Cadence and Joey enjoy raising deer. It all has been a great learning experience for us. We support the cervid industry, and will do what we can to help promote it and Michigan. I look forward to serving on the UDFoM board, as I recongize the importance of a website. The website is a critical tool for us, which will help us grow, promote, and prosper the cervid industry.

I’ve been in the deer industry for over 16 years and thoroughly enjoy it. I was a member of MDEFA for several years. I also served as a board member for Cervid Farmers of Michigan and was then elected as President in 2007. I feel that everyone should be equally represented – whether you are a small hobby farmer or a large ranch – we all deserve respect and recognition from this industry. I look forward to working with everyone to make this a more profitable industry!
